Marine Scientist and Communications Lead
Champney’s West Heritage Group is seeking an enthusiastic student to work in the purpose-built aquarium located in Champney’s West on the Bonavista peninsula NL, during the summer season 2026.
Job duties: animal curation, development and maintenance of aquatic/marine displays (updated biweekly), training of seasonal interpreters regarding the aquatic displays and marine species, hosting visitors and tour groups, working with the Aquarium manager in planning and hosting educational events at the Aquarium, development of plain language information guides for visitors, development of sponsorship opportunities for local businesses to increase funding to the aquarium, determining ways to grow the aquarium visitor base and maintain public engagement with the Aquarium during the closed season through the development of an interactive aquarium website and engaging social media presence. Minimal administrative duties as required.
Qualifications: registration in a marine sciences/biology program or an associated field of science. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of aquatic species and their care, experience or understanding of training techniques, the ability to communicate effectively in plain language, strong IT skills including website development and social media account management, excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
Salary: $18 per hour
Hours: 35 hours per week
Contract start date: 11 May 2026
Tentative contract end date: 6 Sept 2026
